My sister asked for a small cake for her daughter’s birthday party. Other than the birthday girl’s request for a horse and flowers on her cake, I was given free rein as to design. As you can see, I took full advantage of it! I had another design entirely planned, but after finding this adorable cake, I decided to make my own version of it.
Iced with Swiss meringue buttercream, the top tier is all chocolate cake, but the bottom tier is “black and tan” – one layer of chocolate and one of golden butter cake with chocolate ganache filling for all. The accents and modeled figure are made from gumpaste and homemade fondant.
