  1. I think it turned out pretty well. The orange flavor wasn’t super strong, but was definitely discernible. I didn’t want to use cream cheese, since I wasn’t sure how long the cake would be staying out in the heat. For other flavors, I’ve taken my cue from carrot cake recipes I’ve used. I have one I particularly like that includes orange juice and ginger. Someday I’m going to try a candied ginger filling. Other recipes are much more like spice cake with carrots added, so I’ve also thought of trying a cinnamon or brown sugar flavored filling, anything that would harmonize with spice cake.
