An experimental cake to practice the technique of simulating a watercolor effect on fondant using dusting powders and vodka.
I found a few projects from this last year which I hadn’t posted before and decided to share them with you. This whimsical birthday cake was made for a little boy who loves fire fighters and fire engines, as so many little boys do. The cake features a fondant fire truck, heroically spraying water to put out the fondant flames. The birthday boy’s name is formed by the draping loops of the extra fire hose. I really had fun making this one.
The post title pretty much says it all, this time! The castle is three tiers of marble butter cake, filled with light whipped ganache, and topped with Swiss meringue buttercream and homemade fondant. Gumpaste towers with gilded roofs were then added. The cake was completed with the addition of three gumpaste figurines: a dragon, attacking the castle, and a knight and princess defending it with sword and bow.
