Fire Engine Cake

Fire Engine 3 Fire Engine Birthday Cake top view Fire HoseI found a few projects from this last year which I hadn’t posted before and decided to share them with you.  This whimsical birthday cake was made for a little boy who loves fire fighters and fire engines, as so many little boys do.  The cake features a fondant fire truck, heroically spraying water to put out the fondant flames.  The birthday boy’s name is formed by the draping loops of the extra fire hose.  I really had fun making this one.

Quilt Basket Cake

Quilt Sewing Basket CakeThis cake celebrates two of the recipient’s hobbies: quilting and basket weaving.  The cake is pumpkin spice with maple buttercream.  The piped basketweave design is complemented by a fondant quilt and fondant and gumpaste sewing notions, including scissors, a thimble, and a pincushion.

Castle Wedding Cake with Dragon, Princess, and Knight

Dragon Castle Cake with Princess and Knight Knight and Princess FiguresThe post title pretty much says it all, this time!  The castle is three tiers of marble butter cake, filled with light whipped ganache, and topped with Swiss meringue buttercream and homemade fondant.  Gumpaste towers with gilded roofs were then added.  The cake was completed with the addition of three gumpaste figurines: a dragon, attacking the castle, and a knight and princess defending it with sword and bow.
