Two flavors of cupcakes for a little girl’s birthday. The chocolate buttermilk cupcakes are filled with homemade raspberry conserve, while the golden butter cupcakes are filled with milk chocolate ganache. Then, all are topped by swirls of raspberry Swiss meringue buttercream and decorated with sugar pearls and princess crowns.
This bridal shower cake provided the test-run of the wedding cake’s flavor combination. Fondant covers a chocolate-vanilla marble cake with whipped chocolate ganache filling. The water-color style painted flowers are grape hyacinths, one of my favorite flowers.
A vegetable garden cake for a friend who is an avid gardener. Most of the veggies are ones that she will (hopefully) be enjoying this summer. The cake is a new recipe, a banana cake with sour cream ganache.
The Cake’s vegetables include carrots, leeks, lettuces, trellised tomatoes, cabbages, beets, and peas.
A cake to celebrate the end of a continuing education class for a soon-to-be journeyman electrician. Two tiers of chocolate sour cream pound cake, covered in vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream, are accented with homemade fondant decorations. A couple of outlets on the front (one a GFI) and wrappings of orange and green wires completes the first tier. The second tier is made to look like a spool of wire and topped by a fondant wire stripper tool.
Rose buttercream swirls adorn the bottom tier of this fourth anniversary cake. The top tier has simple sugar pearl flowers and piped vines to echo the bride’s wedding dress. The lower tier is dairy-free frosting and coconut cake with raspberry filling, while the top tier is champagne cake layered with cream cheese frosting and raspberry conserve and finished with vanilla bean Swiss meringue buttercream.
Rose-like swirls of Raspberry and vanilla bean Swiss meringue buttercream top yellow butter cupcakes. The crunchy sprinkle of sugar pearls on top adds an interesting textural contrast to the melt-in-your-mouth frosting.
A dragon cake for my two-year-old nephew! Carrot cake with cream cheese icing under 100% from scratch fondant. Castle towers, a gumpaste dragon, a fiery number two, and rune-lettered stones spelling out the birthday boy’s name complete the cake.
